Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases Vol. 4Available on DVD Feb. 2
Check out the official site: www.kidswb.com
Everyone’s favorite cat and mouse are back with 14 shorts from the popular cartoon series. Itchy and Scratchy’s forefathers, TOM AND JERRY, are a fine example of the way cartoons used to be. This collection contains episodes directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera that were released between the years of 1949 to 1956.
The collection includes:
“The Mouse Comes to Dinner”
Tom has a dinner date and gets some reluctant help from Jerry.
“Springtime for Thomas”
Tom is madly in love and Jerry is a bit jealous. With the help of his little green devil at his side, Jerry gets the help of an ally cat to disrupt Tom’s romantic date.
“Jerry and Jumbo”
A little reminiscent of the Disney classic DUMBO, Jerry befriends a lost baby elephant and the two have a little fun with Tom who mistakes the pachyderm as a really large mouse.
“Muscle Beach Tom”
It’s a beautiful day at the beach and, once again, Tom is trying to win the affections of a lovely lady cat. Jerry does everything he can to make this impossible.
Also Includes-
“Trap Happy,” “Polka-Do Puss,” “Saturday Evening Puss,” “Little Quacker” (the first appearance of Quacker), “Cruise Cat,” “The Missing Mouse,” “Just Ducky,” “Little School Mouse,” “Tom and Cherie,” and “Down Beat Bear.”
Animation fans will eat this up. These seven-minute long films showcase a fluid and wonderful style of animation that isn’t practiced anymore. It is also a good way to introduce children to the way things were back in the day. It would be nice to have all these classic Tom and Jerry cartoons in one compiled package, but for now this will have to do. Can’t wait for volume 5!

Dave’s DVD of the Week: The Hurt Locker
Diffusing bombs and saving lives. This is the daily work of the United States Army's Bravo Company. They patrol Baghdad during one of the Iraq war's most hellish times, trying each day not to get blown up. James (Jeremy Renner) joins a tightly knit bomb-disposal unit where Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) is already the intelligence expert. James, by contrast, is a real cowboy. Even in the hulking shell of his bomb suit, his swagger is obvious. But as the unit faces tougher challenges with each new bomb, the men start to fight James's bullish methods. They have only thirty-eight days left in their rotation. They want to live to see day thirty-nine. Director Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break, Near Dark) shows an expert hand at mounting tense scenes. Sure to be an Oscar contender.

Dave’s DVD of the Week: Paranormal Activity
One of my favorite films of the year! The amazing thing about this horror movie is that it isn’t a remake of a Wes Craven film from the 1970’s or ninety minutes of torture porn but a genuinely scary movie with an original premise. The film plays like a “found tape” much like last year’s “Cloverfield”. A young couple, Katie (Katie Featherson) and Micah (Micah Sloat), have recently moved into a home in the San Diego area and things are already getting a bit creepy. Katie is hearing things bumping and thudding in the night so Micah has bought a camera to document what might or might not be going on. They set the equipment up in their room and keep it running all night and no time is wasted as strange occurrences start immediately. They seek help from a paranormal researcher but there seems none can be had. Once they realize that this evil has plagued Katie for years, the situation seems dire. Night after night things get more extreme until the terrifying end.
The Diablo Cody Rocks DVD of the Week: Jennifer’s BodyFrom the creative team behind “Juno” comes this tale of a demon possessed cheerleader who has a taste for young men. Megan Fox gives a sexy performance as Jennifer. This is screenwriter Diablo Cody’s second film and it can be considered her “sophomore slump”. Still a lot of fun and worth a look on Blu-ray.
The Twisted Cartoon DVD of the Week: 9
When 9 (Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Produced by Tim Burton (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) and Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) the film has a stunning visual look and fantastic action sequences.
