Which country should the U.S. invade next?
The celebration of el Día de los Muertos is rooted thousands of miles away in Mexico, but for two days this weekend the tradition came to Seattle. This year, several thousand people, Latino and not, took part in el Día de los Muertos presented by Taller Mexicano para la Cultura y Las Artes. In its sixth year at Seattle Center, the event showcased the tradition of commemorating the dead that is a fusion of Spanish and pre-Hispanic culture. “Many times immigration causes people to lose their culture,” said general coordinator, Marco Caturegli. He said he hoped the event served as a way to strengthen cultural ties, especially for second- and third-generation immigrants. “The main thing is the importance of tradition—to maintain and keep families together—to keep the roots of our ancestors while maintaining our heads high, looking forward.”
